Mobile app evaluation
What you'll learn
1. Test the usability of your app and ensure customers find it easy to use
2. Validate that customers understand how to use your app and navigate the information within it
3. Test navigation elements and make sure your customers can find what they’re looking for
4. Observe how easy or hard it is to complete a specific task within your app
According to an eMarketer study, 88% of smartphone usage is spent using apps. This widespread usage means there is ample opportunity for app developers to get in front of users—but also means there's a lot of competition for user loyalty. In fact, according to eMarketer, most deleted apps are removed within a week after the last use, indicating that apps must prove their value to users with every use, or risk obsolescence. Consistent testing post-launch is key to ensuring your app remains relevant and engaging to your audience.
The mobile app evaluation template will help your team understand what users think about using your app and highlight areas for improvement relating to ease of use, trustworthiness, value, and visual appeal of your app.
This template is great for any app that’s live and downloadable from an app store. You can use this template to benchmark specific user metrics to better understand how your target audience uses your app, or track certain trends around usage or loyalty.
If you’re following the Design Thinking Process, opt for mobile evaluation during the testing stage, following the prototype phase. If the Agile Process is a better fit, mobile evaluation will fall under the deploy stage, before the feedback phase.
To get started, you’ll need the app you’d like to test and a few tasks you’d like contributors to attempt.
